Chillies are perennial plants. Their origins lie in the tropics and if treated correctly will live for years in a frost free location.
In more Northerly climes of course chillies will die every Winter – so many chilli lovers will think that they are annuals.
Some people have chilli plants that manage to get to their sixth or seventh year and still produces a fine crop of chillies heavily.
If it gets really cold many chilli plants will not even survive in the greenhouse. It is best to move them indoors, and follow our Over Winter Chilli Guide.
